In the backcountry anything can happen at any time, and to anyone. It’s can be as simple as being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It does not matter if you’re a seasoned trail runner or brand new to the sport, Mother Nature does not discriminate.

With that said, it is possible to prepare for the unexpected. Mindful awareness, smart preparation, and risk mitigation can aid in a successful self or assisted rescue, saving your life.

This resource is intended to serve as an educational guide with helpful tips and suggestions on how to prepare, respond and react, when adventuring in the backcountry.
